English Grammar – Predictions

When we talk about the future and what we think will happen, we can use two pieces of language:

i. Will

ii. Going to

What is the difference between these two pieces of grammar?

i. We use ’will’ when something is not very certain. Our prediction is based on a feeling or emotion.

ii. We use ‘going to’ when the action is more certain.

Our prediction is based on facts.

  • I think I will go to Bali on vacation. (I am not sure)
  • ‘ I am going to go to Bali on vacation (I plan to go there; I am more certain)
